Comedy Sex Ed

About

How It Started

At some point, we’re 12 years old. All of us. So, we remember what that’s like. We’re running around a locker room, with a kid named Gator, dangling saliva out of our mouths and trying to suck it back in. Well, that’s who’s growing up. That’s who’s coming of age. That’s who’s getting “The Talk.”

But somewhere along the line, we lose sight of that. So, we find some guy in a lab coat, buy one of his books — and as you might expect — your son throws it into a river. So, it’s worth asking… how’s that going so far? Is it actually helping? Or is it more of a ritual? A thing we do to say we did the thing? Well… that’s why…

Comedy Sex Ed, an online version of “The Talk” that parents can give to their son. It meets them where they are. Takes the edge off. And covers the broccoli in cheese. So, if you’ve tried the books, and you’ve tried everything else, there’s this. Comedy Sex Ed. It’s expert approved. Completely online. And better than the book he threw in the river.

Scope

This is an intro course. A primer. The basics. So, while you can always go deeper into every single topic, this course focuses on the key pillars of sex ed.

As for the topics covered, those are loosely inspired by The National Sex Education Standards. But keep in mind, The NSES is not an official, enforced, mandate. It’s more of a helpful reference.

Sources

This course uses information from trusted, publicly-available sources, like The CDC, The Department of Health and Human Services, and The National Institutes of Health. That information was synthesized by a copywriter. And that synthesis was reviewed and approved by a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) with a Master of Public Health (MPH).

Writer

This course was written by an L.A.-based creative named Nick Taravella. Nick has been a writer for over a decade, a comic for over a decade, and a teenage boy for (almost) a decade, back when he was 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 years old.

His experience lies in the ability to synthesize complex information and make it more approachable. That synthesis, in this course, was approved by a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) with a Master of Public Health (MPH).
